It is easy to see on most homes while the growth is in process; there are dark black streaks all over the place. The best place to look to find out if your roof is dirty is on the down-side (under) of the chimney, the metal vent pipes and/or the vents. There you should find a lighter color. That is the original color when you have a clean roof.
