KRCA provides detailed information to help building owners make informed decisions about maintaining or replacing their roof systems. KRCA's guide to buying a roof system helps building owners understand the components of a roof system. In addition, KRCA provides guidelines to help building owners select qualified commercial (low or steep-slope) roofing contractors.
A. Clearly written proposals that are detailed and broken down into separate line items are a good sign that the contractor is being thorough and has prepared an accurate estimate. I received several estimates to replace my asphalt shingle roof system and the prices vary greatly. A. If one estimate seems much lower than the others and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Many fly-by-night contractors' below-cost bids seem attractive, but these contractors often are uninsured and perform substandard work.

The KRCA has several types of members and we encourage all contractors to become Certified. In 2001, KRCA began its Certified Contractor Program, which was designed for Contractors who want to set themselves apart from typical roofing companies by setting and living up to higher standards. Post a $10,000 bond, assuring that the contractor is established and that the job promised is the job that will be received.
