Built-Up Roofing Systems, also known as BUR, are considered one of oldest and most reliable roofing systems for commercial properties that have a low sloping or flat structure. BUR roofing systems are composed of three elements: felt, bitumen, and surfacing. The felt material, composed of glass, organic or polyester fibers, is designed to serve the same purpose as reinforcing steel in concrete, acting as tensile reinforcement to resist the extreme pulling forces in the roofing material.When installed in layer fashion, felt materials also permit more bitumen to be applied to the entire system.
EPDM Roofing Systems (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene-Monomer) are the premier choice for buildings that have low slopes, and have risen in popularity for new developments and roof restorations. With their characteristic dense, synthetic rubber membrane, EPDM Roofing Systems have been successfully installed since the 1960's, for their versatility, long lifespan and low maintenance requirements.
Unlike Built-Up Roofing Systems (BUR), which are constructed on-site, Single Ply Membranes consist of flexible sheets of compounded synthetic materials manufactured to strict quality control specifications and thicknesses. These prefabricated sheets are known for their flexibility, and can be applied to virtually any roof surface.
