Cedar shakes offer a natural look with a lot of character. Because of variations in color, width, thickness, or cut of the wood, no two shake roofs will ever be the same. Wood offers some energy benefits, too: it helps to insulate the attic, and it allows the house to breathe, circulating air through the small openings under the felt rows on which wooden shingles are laid.
Inspection is of the roofing materials and their application only; it does not cover structural or engineering problems; it does not cover the gutter or down spout system unless otherwise noted; it does not cover any dry rot, termite or infection problems. A roof inspection is our opinion and is based on information provided and a visual inspection of accessible areas only. Previous problems not disclosed to us prior to inspection could result in voiding any warranty provided.

No one answered the phone when I called, so I left a voicemail. I got a call this morning from someone at the company, whose only question was "wher are you located?" I said, "Berkeley." She said, "We don't service Berkeley." Really? You're in Fremont and you can't jump on the freeway and drive thirty or forty minutes for a job? Okay. I'll certainly find someone who can.

Had them do a pre-purchase roof inspection based on referral from realtor. We should have picked our own inspector. They seemed to have a missed a bunch of stuff and we also learned (later) that they don't do gutters so it turns out no one looked a the gutters. I think that's kinda strange because gutters are an integral part of a roof system.

I've had Chandler Ham perform several roof inspections for me and my clients have all been happy with their inspections and their repair work. I was referred by a few other agents in my office who are all top producers in the area and they were all very happy with them too. I haven't used another roofing company since I first used them for Sellers and Buyers.

Very bad experience. I have been trying to schedule roof repairs since October of this year. I followed up with several phone calls and emails to get a quote. It has now been 6 weeks since I faxed the signed contract. The roofers were supposed to come in on Saturday 12/9. Today is Tuesday 12/12 and still no word. The front desk never returns phone calls and emails. I have called twice in the past 24 hours. The front desk cannot tell me when the roofers will show up.

I used them for my roof inspection in 2010 and they were great. I used them again in 2012 to help with a leak repair, everything seemed fine until I noticed the same interior cracking. I waited months (about 8) for them to pull the file and try to get someone out to look at it, but nothing ever happened. With family, and life I forgot about it.we didn't get that much rain.
After our 2016/17 rain I had them come out and look at another area and I wanted them to look into what happened from 2012. Looking at my communications with them I have been patiently waiting for them since March 2017. It is not October, and I don't think I should wait any longer. I can't recommend them due to their lack of communication and action on their part.

We contacted Chandler Ham for a quote on a new roof. We decided to go use them for the project and we called to get a contract. It took several calls and the office assistant was always the go between for the Contractor Gary. We wee told the job would be scheduled in 6-8 weeks. Months have gone by and no response or acknowledgement from this company.
My husband and I both called or emailed multiple times trying to confirm a construction window. We always received promises from the office assistant that Gary would call or email, "you're next on the list" etc. We never heard from Gary, he could never be bothered to answer. If this is the way they do business before even scheduling a job, what are they like during construction or if we needed warranty work done? We cancelled the contract and we will find a new roofer. I would not suggest this company to anyone.

I had issues with scheduling and general communication before the job. I spoke with Gary Ham regarding the initial quote, which was fair, and was impressed with his professionalism. However, the ladies who work in the office were hit-and-miss, failing to return phone calls or answer e-mails. After waiting 8 weeks, only by chance did I learn on a Friday that they would begin work replacing my roof on the following Tuesday.
That said, the workmanship was great. Tuesday morning, his crew arrived and got right to business. They didn't dawdle. 3 days later, I had a new roof. They mostly cleaned up after themselves, leaving minimal debris in my yard and a few piles of nails in the gutters. This was in August. While the roof looked great to my untrained eye, I waited until the winter rains before writing a review. And what a winter we've had! I'm delighted to say that I've had no issues at all with the new roof.

They inspected a roof on a house i recently purchased and gave it a passing grade (were hired by the agent). The roof is towards the end of it's service life but still in good condition. a month after the close we had our first big rain in a year and it leaked. The inspection came with the usual disclaimer but i called after the leak and Gary came out early on a Saturday morning just two days after i called and located the source of the leak within a few minutes (it's a built-up roof with gravel, there's no way an inspector could have found the hole without knowing where the leak started from). he patched the hole and came back the next day (sunday) and finished the patch job before the next rain came. Gary was very nice, took time to explain the roof construction, didn't try to sell me anything and went above and beyond to make sure the leak was fixed on a sunday. He followed up after the rain to make sure the patch held too. Really appreciate his help and recommend this company.

The original owner of our house had roof repair done by this company in the summer of 2014. In February 2015, we've discovered significant mold damage that costed almost 10,000 dollars in total for remediation. After a detailed roof inspection by another company, we've discovered that some of the roof damages chandler ham claimed to have fixed was fixed improperly and allowed water to seep through. Furthermore, some faulty tiles REMAINED to be faulty in part contributing directly to the leak.
We highly recommend against this company because of their poor quality of roof repair. I would advise spending more money on another repair company to avoid potentially having to spend tens of thousands resulting from leaks. Chandler Ham also has a statement that declares they are not responsible for the damages in the event of any leak. Although Chandler Ham have a warranty which covers those tiles that were fixed in 2014 (but not any damage resulting from the leak caused by those faulty tiles), we decided not to have them fix those tiles again because we do not trust their quality.
It is worth noting that their customer service is very friendly and professional. But again, we do NOT recommend this company for roof repairs because of the low reparation quality

We just had these guys out to do an inspection of a roof on a house we intend to buy. The inspector did not walk onto the main section of the roof, claiming he could 'see it from here'. We asked that he place a light weight sheetmetal cap back on a roof jack that had come off in a windstorm last night, and he refused to do so. He was at the jobsite for only a few minutes, and provided us with no service or information worth having. Very disappointing.

We were recommend this company for a roof inspection and some gutter work on a new house we were purchasing. Roof inspection undertaken at a good price. First rain of through season had water coming through our ceilings. Thankfully the roofer found the problem straight away and resolved it.chandler ham had missed a huge slit on the felt and a flashing missing which left a big hole on a vent.
They also passed the gutter work to a third party contractor.who was probably the rudest people i have ever had to deal with. Of course on pointing this out to chandler ham it is of course not their problem but everyone else's. One month on i am still awaiting a promised return call from Gary ham. You pay for the service you get.if you value your property DON'T use chandler ham.

I was lead by a reference. they installed roof and downspout. But they did not complete the work connect downspout to ground. I contacted them via email and phones. They never responsed. Later, I found that they did not finish work on roof. I need to spend extra money to fix them. I will never recommend them to my friends.

One of our friends recommended them for our roof. We found their price quote reasonable and detailed. Gary, the owner, is a very professional person to work with. They were fast, efficient and finished the work as promised. They followed all the paperwork required by our city and the permit was approved without any issue. We are very pleased with our roof and would recommend Chandler Ham highly.

We had our roof done by Chandler ham in Jan 2011. in september 2011 we had some funky developments with shingles in a small area and requested Chandler ham to look into it since there is warranty. Had to call a couple of times, but then Rob, came by, took a look & explained it was because the gutter was separating- confirmed that the shingles were ok and he put in a few nails to attach the gutter back to roof even though we hadn't engaged them to change the gutters at time of putting the roof. Thank you Rob & Chandler Ham.
